About Us

CapLit is a reading series and literary organization premiering in Sacramento, CA in 2025. Created by Stories on Stage Sacramento Founder Valerie Fioravanti, long-term Director Sue Staats, and former Stories on Stage Davis Co-Director Naomi Williams, we hope to bring outstanding writing and acting talent to an audience hungry for cultural events and community in Sacramento. Local actor Kellie Raines will serve as our Casting Director, selecting the best local talent to give voice to the work of our featured writers.

CapLit’s first season launches on March 7th at the CLARA auditorium, featuring excerpts from the anthology Sacramento Noir. Our featured writers for this event are Maceo Montoya, Shelley Blanton-Stroud, Nora Rodriguez Camagna, and the anthology’s editor, John Freeman. Our featured actors will include Beatriz Figueroa and Jess Brooks.

Our first season will include four more events: May 9th, July 18th, September 5th, and November 14th.

In addition, CapLit intends to be a hub for literature and writers in Sacramento. There will be writing workshops, panels, and opportunities to socialize, network, and grow as writers in community. CapLit’s founders have long believed Sacramento needed a hub for its lovers of writing and storytelling. Our amazing team of start-up volunteers readily agreed to help make this happen. The actors we partner with bring their love for performance into our literary mix and highlight just how stellar Sacramento’s theater scene has become.
